Sensei Malcolm McClure
It is with great sadness that i have to announce the death of Sensei Malc McClure, Sensei Malc Died in a tragic mortorcycle accident on Monday the 11 December,
Malc was one of my best Friends and will be terribly missed by all who ever had the pleasure of training with him, Sensei Malc believed 100% in what we was doing at okko and was striving to help make okko a martial art to be respected, he had helped all of us Black Belts try our hardest to achieve our goals, the martial arts fraternity is a poorer place without him guiding and teaching his knowledge, Malc never quit in anything he did and more than anything he cared deeply for his students and friends well being. i cant imagine a martial arts lesson without him, he was funny, intelligent , an incredible martial artist and a true friend. Malc thought the world of the junior Black Belts in okko Lil Dave, Mikey Tommy and lower graded students Leon and Danger Dave, we would always talk about how best to push them and in what direction, please use the guestbook to write your fondest memories of Malc our best friend our Sensei and Founder.
Malc you gave us so much and asked for nothing in return, we will never allow anyone to forget you ever! sleep gently my friend, God Bless you and may you Rest In Piece.
the following people trained with Sensei Malc every week and will always be in his debt :
Nigel Lee, David Rowley, Ian Glasper, Mikey Edwards, Tommy Edwards, Leon Gears, Danger Dave,
Instead of leaving us with physical pain as you did weekly you now leave us with the most painful emotional pain for ever.

This is a recent article on OKKO Karate Jutsu and the Late Sensei Malcolm McClure, i was interviewed by Features Editor of Traditional Karate Magazine`s Matthew Sylvester, and this was the final version in print (so to speak).
Malc`s Kata Creation Kimyou Seishin
As you are all aware 2 weeks prior to Malc`s untimely death, Malc had created a kata this was to be showcased at OKKO`s first ever seminar/course, due to be held on the 16th December 2006, sadly Malc never got round to teaching anyone other than me this kata. my promise was to teach this kata to everyone who wishes to see it and study, further cementing Malcs legacy to this World.
The kata and Bunkai can be viewed by click the link on the Video page, I am so proud that this Kata has been viewed and studied indepth by David Chapman Sensei from the United States, below is the write up Sensei David has done and put on the Iain Abernethy website.
Sensei David is the Chief instructor of the Sanwai Kai Karate Jutsu school USA, anyone wishing to read more articles from David can check out the Iain Abernethy webite, they really are truly inspiring words, words that have inspired me.
Thankyou David as always a mountain of knowledge.

I'm not one for shameless advertising, so instead I would like to take the time to break down a Kata I am learning and give some personal thoughts in its' regards.
The Kata is a new Kata created by the late Malcolm McClure Sensei, co-founder of the OKKO Karate Jutsu Organisation and it is a legacy carried on by Nigel Lee Sensei, Malc's partner in crime when it comes to the OKKO.
Many people might look down on the creation of new Kata, or even changing old ones (understandably so for some), however, this Kata is definitely deserving of consideration along side the older 'traditional' Kata.
The pattern is very simple, and it reminds me somewhat of Kata Saifa (being a Goju practitioner), though it is an extremely advanced form with highly effective, highly devestating Bunkai.
One section of the Kata Bunkai that sticks out the most to me is a section containing a through, utilizing Zenkutsu Dachi - one steps through, straightens their leg and at the same time leans forward, bringing their body and back leg into alignment.
Nige makes this look so easy, and by all intents and purposes, it is a fairly easy technique, however, telling the human mind that is quite another thing entirely.
There is a series of controls in the Kata utilizing a familiar Aiki-jutsu/Aikido technique known as Nikkyo.
Not to mention the style of stepping used in the Bunkai seems fairly similar to the style of stepping used in some Gung Fu systems, which really gives some good insight into the stances themselves and how one might apply them.
Really puts my training in perspective regarding other Kata (especially after viewing another practitioner doing Kururunfa utilizing this same stepping method).
The use of Tegumi (Datum Setting) and Tuite are astonishing; Nige really does Malc's Kata and Bunkai justice in these video clips.
I think the point here is that if we are to understand the older Kata in the proper context, perhaps he should look at more modern creations in order to understand the deciphering principles and code.
We don't necessarily need to create our own as we have people from whose wisdom we can draw, but perhaps this is another great tool to which we can turn, the creation of personal Kata, if even just for the fun of it.

This is an excellent write up, and i am proud to of read this, I know 100% Malc would of been so humbled to of read this, i hope Mr & Mrs McClure enjoy reading this too.
I have found video footage of Sensei Malcolm performing the Katas and also doing a commentary whilst he perfoms them, just as soon as im able to upload them i will, so that we all may still learn the great lessons he had to teach us on his favourite part of Karate, the katas he performed were done with such enthusiasim and power, they were pure brilliance to anybody watching, Sensei Malc was the Ultimate Karate, Kata champion for more years running than i could even remember, surpassing many of his instructors who had actually taught them to him.
Sensei Malc left us a gift he had invented a kata himself and taught me it only a week ago, the kata is still to be named but with the help of all his training partners we will name it soon, this kata with its Bunkai will be taught to every OKKO student and will be practised on a regular basis, it is a unique kata with all the techniques more than capable of dealing with any violent attack.
As you may be aware the katas were taught by the creator and handed only to the most senior student, Malc wanted to teach his own kata to everyone and was going to introduce it on OKKO`s Bunkai course that was going to be held this Saturday 16th December 2006, i feel so privallidged that i was the person he taught it to i will now pass this kata on to our students with the Bunkai (defence application) with it, Malc would of been overjoyed that Sensei Abernethy himself asked me personally if i could teach the kata to him, this in turn will keep Malcs study burning as strong as ever, who knows one day all karate Dojo`s in the country will be teaching this kata and trying there best to understand it.
To view Malcs Kata (Kimyou Seishin) please click on videos, and follow the link, due to space restrictions i have had to upload it to Youtube, which is a good thing really, as this gets the kata out to a wider Audience.
Gichin Funakoshi (Known as the father of modern day Karate) wrote In Karate Nyumon,
"Do not think of karate as belonging to only one Dojo. The spirit of the true karate practitioner and the elements of there training are applicable to each and every aspect of our lives."
"One whose spirit and mental strength have been strengthened by training and learning with a Never-Say-Die attitude will find no challenge too great to handle.
A karate student who has undergone long years of physical pain and mental agony to learn and have a greater understanding of one single punch, one single kick or one Kata, should be able to face any task, No matter how difficult, and carry it through to the end.
A person of this calibre can then truly be said to of learnt Karate".
Anyone who had ever been fortunate enough to witness Malc performing his Katas or Karate in general will know that the above statement seems to have his name and whole karate de-meanor stamped all over it, Malc was first and foremost a student of the Martial Arts and secondly an instructor, he would always ensure that the subject he was teaching would have been worked on and read up on and practised and practised some more, giving him a far greater understanding of what he was teaching, Malc would sometimes stand in stance for upto an hour just to try and understand the reason why?, This made him in my opinion the best Martial Artist around, and speaking from long experience 27 years to be precise he was the best instructor anyone could ever find, ive not met anyone who could even stand in his shadows let alone in front of him.
Malc never craved respect people just respected him, Malc believed respect had to be earned and worked both ways, He respected everyone and we loved the guy.
Gichin Funakoshi maybe the father and founder of modern day karate but Sensei Malcolm McClure will carry the banner for being the founder of future Martial Arts, and i for one will use his life as an example to my own. Malc and i came up with a club Motto Inspire to Achieve.
"Malc as you Inspired us all so we shall achieve"
